UBS therefore turned to social media and asked the people of Zurich: What is quintessentially Zurich for you? More than 1,000 submissions poured in, ranging from famous landmarks to very personal favorite places. From them, Zur-ich artist Fredinko created a colorful illustration filled with detail that brings these many different perspectives togeth-er into a single shared portrait of the city.
Since October 2026, the artwork has been on display on the ceiling of the Polybahn, allowing passengers to rediscover major and minor Zurich landmarks on every ride. From the very beginning, the design was intended to complement the Polybahn both thematically and in its use of color. The ceiling’s heritage-protected white was incorporated into the artwork itself, complemented by the Polybahn’s familiar red.
